There has been some exciting news come out of Pennsylvania State University. Research conducted at the University recently suggested it is possible to lose weight by making small changes in your diet.
The women in the study ate a whopping 800 fewer calories a day as a result of these dietary changes. The interesting part of the study was the kind of foods they ate: They replaced some of the high calorie foods with fruits, vegetables and other water dense foods that kept them just as full.
In another recent study it was shown that Dieters who replace sugary drinks with water lose an extra 5 pounds a year, and those who drink a couple of more cups of water a day increase weight loss by 2 pounds a year( Presented 10/28/06 at the annual meeting of the Obesity Society).
I can go on and on with research studies that show the weight loss effects of drinking enough water each day. Let's take a look at other dieting benefits that water intake provides.
Water Fact: A well-hydrated person has the capacity to exercise 33 percent longer than someone who is not well-hydrated. Furthermore, by being 2 percent dehydrated one's athletic performance can be effected as much as 15 percent
How Much To Start Off WIth?
Eight 8-ounce glasses amount to about two quarts of water. This is okay for the average person, but if you're overweight, you should drink another eight ounces for every 25 pounds of excess weight you carry. You should also increase this if you live in a hot climate or exercise very intensely.
This water consumption should be spread out throughout the day. It's not healthy at all to drink too much water at one time. Try to pick three or four times a day when you can have a big glass of water, and then sip in between. Don't let yourself get thirsty. If you feel thirsty, you're already becoming dehydrated. Drink when you're not thirsty yet.
Do you think water is boring? Drinking other fluids will help hydrate your body, but the extra calories, sugar, additives and whatever else aren't what you need. Try some lemon in the glass, or you can always go with the flavored water.
