An ectopic pregnancy takes place when there is a certain complication during the process of pregnancy. The fertilized ovum begins to develop in any tissue other than the wall of the uterus. In most cases this is seen to occur in the fallopian tube which is commonly known as tubal pregnancy but there are rare cases when this takes place in the ovaries, the abdomen or the cervix. The fetus releases enzymes that permit it to implant in a variety of tissues. An embryo which gets implanted anywhere else other than the uterus will cause a huge damage in its efforts to obtain enough supply of blood. An ectopic pregnancy is an emergency case and needs to be treated immediately. If left neglected, it can even lead to the death of the woman.
There are some signs of symptoms ectopic pregnancy that have been gathered from a number of cases. These early signs would include lower abdomen pain that might feel like a cramp. Also the stomach might get inflamed. It will hurt the woman while trying to urinate. A mild discomfort and pain will constantly be felt by the woman experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. Similar pains and discomforts would be felt in the case of a corpus luteum on the ovary which sometimes occurs during normal pregnancies in rare cases. When an ectopic pregnancy occurs it means that it is actually a failed pregnancy and levels of progesterone lapse causing a withdrawal of bleeding; so ectopic pregnant women would experience mild vaginal bleeding as well. You might not be able to distinguish this from a miscarriage bleeding or an implantation bleeding.
In such cases of ectopic pregnancy, the woman is bound to experience severe pain during bowel movements. These pains and bleedings get more severe as the period of the pregnancy gets longer. The later you realize you are suffering from ectopic pregnancy, the more pain you will have to endure. The bleeding might not only be vaginal but also internal which is worse. As long as the bleeding is external you know it is only a fall in the progesterone levels but if you bleed internally it means that you are suffering a hemorrhage of the tube that has gotten impregnated.
The most commonly reported wrong diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy is pelvic inflammatory disease also known as PID. The later and more aggravated signs of ectopic pregnancy are lower back pain, pelvic pain, abdominal pain, shoulder pain which may be caused by the free tracking of blood through the abdomen causing irritation and discomfort to the diaphragm. Cramping or a sense of tenderness towards only one side of the pelvis is also a sign of ectopic pregnancy. Usually the pain will be noticeable because it won't be the usual pains you experience thus draw your attention towards it quite significantly. You might be pushed to think you are suffering from a different disease altogether because the symptoms are similar to many other diseases. But check with a good doctor and you will be guided well.
